"Steven Pirie writes an amusing tale of a middle-aged crisis and a high-tech, very expensive weekend away. The interaction between the characters develops almost unnoticed until you're suddenly aware of both points of view. Very cleverly written." Gareth D Jone, Whispers of Wickedness review * My short story Night Dreaming has won first prize in the Future Fire/Second Life Black Swan short story competition. The story wins a rather tasty 500 US Dollars, along with publication in both Future Fire and Second Life.
The competition was to visit Second Life , and in particular Black Swan's enclave, and view the stunning, 3-D, animated artwork. The challenge then was to produce a story inspired by what's there. Night Dreaming is a story based on isolation. Believe me, Black Swan have produced a world of splendid isolation. Go see for yourself--you will need a free Second Life account, and you will need to download Second Life software to drive the world--but the visit is well worth your trouble. Find the angel, and step into the beam of light to its rear. You will be transported into an upper realm filled with lots of additional imagery. Black Swan have created a truly remarkable world of art. The story won an honorouble mention in the Year Book of Fantasy and Horror, and Zencore as a whole has been nominated for a Bram Stoker award "...one of the least palatable and best stories in the book." ligotti.net Click to read what people are saying about Mary's Gift, the Stars, and Frank's Pisser * Lucy's Flower is now published in The Horror Express 6

* Of Kate, and Love, and the Faraway Door has been accepted by AfterburnSF to be published in the July edition added 22nd May, 2007 * has accepted a so far "unnamed story" of mine. For those who don't know Nemonymous's mode of operation, it's unnamed because Nemo is all about anonymity (in fact, for past issues its authors would not even be allowed to make this "unnamed story" declaration). I love the idea, because stories are accepted by story rather than by who's writing them (submissions are also made anonymously). It's an even playing field. Des Lewis, Nemo's creator, is running a competition here where the prize is a free copy of the anthology. Nemo is well worth winning - I have all the previous editions and the quality is superb. * the artwork for the new paperback edition of Digging Up Donald
